Installing Debian Linux on Samsung X60

This laptop is operating under Kernel version 2.6.17

Basic Installation of Debian Linux:

Durning the Debian installition loading of the network module failed, so i installed the system without network support.
using a burned cd with the kernel 2.6.16.5 from www.kernel.org i copied the new kernel sources to the hard disk
i used a knoppix 5.0 (4.2 also works) to configure compile and to install the new kernel on the system, after rebooting the ethernet device is working. ("knoppix nocpmcia" as boot parameter helps on problems during boot)
having ethernet i updated all packages and installed the rest of needed software
